Wine

It's one of the flagship wines of Friulian wine production, ruby red in colour with violet hues that tend to turn to pomegranate-colour if aged.
It has an intense and pleasant aroma, with hints of dried plum and wild blackberry. Its original shade, sign of the peculiarity of this wine, reveals a mineral taste.
Sapid, slightly tannic, bitter with a pleasant and persistent aftertaste.

Historical Background

This vine belongs to the great group of Refosco vines, and the local variety has been eversince spread across the region, especially in the Udine province. With the diffusion of noble grape varieties such as Cabernet and Merlot, the vine has almost disappeared. Already famous in 1700, the first traces of its cultivation can be found in the Torreano and Faedis areas, but the true origins of the grape are still uncertain. The northern part of the CDO Friuli Colli Orientali wine region has been recognized as production subzone of the local Refosco, the "Refosco of Faedis."
